Scuba Diving

Roatan is surrounded by a fringing reef that makes for spectacular diving. The reef starts at about 30 feet then drops off to 100 feet plus giving divers the best of all diving ~ reef and wall. There are several wrecks around the island for divers to explore, and large and small sea life is routinely spotted on dives. Whale sharks migrate close to the island between Feb and April, and the island also offers a specialty shark dive. So whether you are a certified diver or would like to learn, Roatan is one of the best dive destinations.

Subway Watersports
Subway Watersports is located on the unspoiled north-east side of Roatan away from the hustle and bustle of the island’s west side. They cater to the various hotels and vacation rental homes in the area.

When diving with them you will enjoy individual, personal service with valet diving. They specialize in meeting each particular group’s needs and requests; a PADI Divemaster guides all dives. They do multilevel dive profiles with one hour dive times taking divers out in small groups of 4 to 8 divers per guide. The dive boats leave daily at 8:45 am, 10:45 am and 1:45 pm. They typically have one night dive scheduled each week, but additional dives can be arranged for groups of four people or more upon request.  They also visit the Aguila wreck once a week.

The north east side of Roatan is sparsely populated and has a minimal number of resorts and dive operations, Subway’s dive sites are, therefore, never crowded. The majority of their dive sites are located within a 5 to 10 minute boat ride, which means that surface intervals can be spent back at the dive shop. When they go to some of the further dive sites, they do a two tank dive in the morning and one tank in the afternoon.

Subway Watersports is very excited to announce that it has expanded their operation to include a south side dive shop.  For those looking to dive Mary’s Place, Calvin’s Crack, Valley of the Kings, and other notable south side dive sites, Subway can now make those arrangements for you as well!  And, in case of rough seas they move their boats to the south side for diving.  This enables them to dive when other dive centers on the north side don’t dive.

The dive center is just a short 7 minutes away by car. Subway offers guests of Villas del Mar a free pick-up and drop-off service from the villas’ docks. They can also arranged private pool lessons at the Villas for those guests taking their Discover Scuba Dive experience or other courses requiring pool work.
